Chief nurse

As a chief nursing officer, you will provide leadership to the nursing and AHP teams in an NHS organisation. A typical day, you might manage finances, implement treatment plans, integrate new medical technologies, assign schedules, and onboard new nurses into the department.

As a chief nurse you have responsibility at Board level for the professional nurses and AHP and to provide strong leadership across these professions encouraging innovation, creativity and strategy thinking about service provision.

As a Board member you have shared responsibility for the achievement of the trusts strategic and operational objectives and for setting and exemplifying the Trusts values and standards. The Chief Nurse takes specific leadership responsibility for providing leadership and board representation for all nursing, and therapy staff AHP workforce. This role also in responsible for the development and leading the implementation of the Quality Improvement Strategy, developing and implementing patient safety systems and processes within the Trust, being Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Trust and the Trust board lead for adult and children’s safeguarding issues and taking the lead role in ensuring continuous improvement in patient safety and patient experience across the Trust .
