Roles in CAMHS

There are numerous roles you can choose from within CAMHS and many people have little or no experience with children and young people before they join this dynamic workforce. If you have a background in care, health, support and most importantly are passionate about caring for young people and their families/carers, one of the many roles below would fit with you.

Many people refer to a CORE profession needed to work in CAMHS, which is a nursing, social worker, psychology, therapy, health science type of degree and many people move from Adult mental health into roles within CAMHS. There are lots of ways to get into CAMHS and our organisations encourage and support the development of all roles.

 

David Vogwell, started as an assistant therapist, in our young people’s inpatient wards having come from an Adult Secure centre. He worked his way through a degree, paid for by the NHS Trust to become an Occupational Therapist supporting young people with Eating Disorders in our new Day centre. He loves his work because of “the difference he and the multi discipline team can have on a young person’s life”. He says “it’s not always about a happy story, but is a real privilege to be part of the young people’s journey and that we as professionals get to know them at a really challenging time of their life but then get to see them leave with the skills they need to live the life they want”.

What makes us even more unique is that we strive continuously to improve our roles and services by working closely with our young people across Hampshire and the IOW in our participation groups.
