Roles in CAMHS

Mental health nurse

About the role...

A CAMHS mental health nurse will provide care and support to children, young people and their families. They might work in the community in a variety of settings including CAMHS clinics, schools and surgeries, or they may be based in an inpatient unit.

In CAMHS, mental health nurses are involved in assessing and supporting children and young people, working with them to enhance motivation and engagement and preparing them for therapy.

What qualifications do I need?

Diploma of higher education or degree in nursing approved by the Nursing Midwifery Council, a relevant post-graduate qualification is also beneficial.

What experience do I need to bring?

A CAMHS mental health nurse will need to have relevant post-graduate experience in working with vulnerable people with complex mental health and behavioural needs. Although this will ideally include children or young people, it can be possible for nurses working in other specialities to transfer their skills to CAMHS.
