Health care support worker

About the role...

In this role you will be a the heart of everything that the NHS delivers as this is a vital role and will support patients on their journey back to health , doing everything from taking blood to helping the young person feel at ease.

No two days are the same in this role as you support the treatment to young people either in the community or on the ward. Both provide an opportunity for you to be part of close knit team of healthcare professionals whilst providing your care and support to the team and the patients.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment where communication is vital alongside your compassionate nature.



What qualifications do I need?

Many healthcare support workers do not need a lot of formal qualifications. If you have achieved Maths and English in school that you can apply for a role and if you haven’t, you might want to consider an apprenticeship role where you will gain your Maths and English as part of your training. Many people follow this route once they have achieve T levels and follow this pathway through to apprenticeship nursing.

What experience do I need to bring?

Being a healthcare support worker is a great start in the NHS as it gives you a broad flavour of the range of roles that you might want to apply for once we have spend some time in the NHS environments. You will probably have a desire for caring along side some evidence of good communication skills and a caring and compassionate nature.

Gaining experience before applying for a role in the NHS can be through work experience, T levels, volunteering or through looking after a relative or friend who has been sick or disabled.
