Roles in CAMHS

Single point of access

About the team...

This is often the first point of contact and the beginning stage of a young person’s experience of / or journey in CAMHS. Clinicians work closely with other key organisations and community agencies such as No limits, Barnardos, Yellow door. They also support a stepped care model where CYP have access to the most appropriate service to meet their need. They link with the MHST, they triage, assess, offer evidence-based advice, direct for re direct families’ carers, other professionals and young people to resources or services. They are skilled in understanding mental health and wellbeing, the local community, assessing risk and Mental health need and supporting families to navigate complex systems. They are the link with specialist CAMHS teams and offer interventions for CYP and their parents/carers which often reduce the need for other service involvement. Clinician’s come from a wide range of backgrounds, including nursing, social work, Primary Mental Health Workers, HCSW as well as youth workers, and the charity sector. Clinicians are often trained in CBT, experts in group facilitation and psychoeducation.
